Quiet Signal
- Teacher raises hand (stop talking, raise your hand, and wait for instructions)
- Teacher says, "When you hear my voice clap once." (students clap one time)
Entering the Classroom
- Enter quietly
- Walk to assigned seat
- Take out supplies/gather materials
- Read board & begin working
Tardies
- Enter quietly
- Give pass to teacher & find out what class is working on
- Begin immediately
Paper & Pencils
- Bring every day
- Take out when you get to your seat
- If you don’t have any:
- Ask “3 before me” and/or
- Give me collateral for borrowed materials
- 2 sharpeners in room: under flag at front, near door
- Hand-held sharpeners to be used over a waste basket
- Ask permission when taking a test or teacher is teaching
Heading Paper
- Name, date, period in the upper right-hand corner
- Assignment on top line
Turning in Work
- Turn in at the Work Table
- Put into YOUR class tray
- Do not bother other students’ work
- Papers should be free of “scrufflies”
When Guests Come Into the Classroom
- Do not speak to guests
- During Assessments- Remain silent
- During Teacher talk- Remain silent
- During reading/writing workshop- Keep reading/writing
- During group work- Continue working quietly
Talking
- No shouting out- Raise your hand, and wait to be called on
- Use appropriate voice levels (small group vs. whole group)
Reading
- Everyone reads at times
- No one criticizes another’s reading ability
Test-Taking
- Absolutely no talking
- Keep your eyes on your own paper
- Cheating will result in a 0%-F, a referral, and a parent contact
- If you have ANY questions, raise your hand and wait for the teacher
Announcements
- Students are required to watch and listen to announcements on the television
- Students are required to listen to all announcements over the PA system
- Students who talk or are disruptive during announcements will have consequences
Trash
- Do not crumble paper
- Hold until an appropriate time or the end of the class
- Do not “shoot baskets”
Recycling
- Place all paper, magazines, and newspaper in recycling bin
- No trash in the recycling bin
- No tissues and paper towels in the recycling bin
Personal Items
- Place backpacks and purses on backs of chairs or snugly near your desk
- No purses on backpacks in your laps
- Place books, folders, and other items under desks and out of walkway
Rest Room/Water Fountain (at teacher’s discretion)
- After the first 10 minutes of class; before the last minutes
- You must have a pass & sign out during class
- Playing/disruptive hallway behavior will result in privileges being revoked
Computers/Technology
- Must have teacher permission to get on computer, iPad, etc.
- Sign in using your own password
- Only visit approved, school appropriate websites
- Only work on what you have permission to work on
- Vandalization will result in privileges being revoked
Bookshelves
- Return materials where you get them from
- If you are unsure of where an item belongs, ask
- If you see something is in the wrong place, put it in the correct place
- Ask permission to check out a book
Media Center (temporarily closed)
- May go to check out books, use computer for assignments/projects, or research
- Must have Media Pass and Student ID
- Playing/disruptive behavior will result in privileges being revoked
Dress-Code (Non-Negotiable)
- No sagging; must have pants pulled up
- Tops should not be revealing
- Shorts & skirts must be appropriate length
- Hood off, hats off, sunglasses off
- Will be sent to office if unable to correct in class
- Repeat offenders will receive an administrative referral
Food/Gum/Candy
- I should not see it, hear it, or smell it
- Will be confiscated (not returned) if caught eating or giving to others
- If teacher gives it to you, eat it in class OR save for later/lunch
- Will be told to throw away if seen in hallway
Cell phones, smart watches, & other electronics
- Should be out of sight unless explicit permission is given for use
- With permission, only one earbud to be used; volume for the listener only
- If in sight or makes noise in class, it may be kept until the end of the period, end of the day, or sent to an administrator depending on the offense
- No charging in school; charge your phones at home
Using Good Manners
- Answer with "yes" (not yeah, mmm-hmm, or uh-huh)
- Say “please” and “thank you”
- Say “excuse me” when you burp
- Turn your head when you cough or sneeze (no open-mouth coughing)
- Cover your mouth when you yawn (without the sound effects)
- Ask to step out of the room if you have to “pass gas”
Teacher’s Desk
- OFF LIMITS (also includes shelves, cabinets, etc.)
- Do not place assignments on desk
- Only go on desk if you have teacher’s permission
Dismissal
- The bell does not dismiss you
- Clean under and around your desk
- Put all supplies where they belong
- Wait for the teacher to dismiss
